Kosovo Government and World Bank signed two agreements

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Ahmet Shala and World Bank Representative in Pristina, Mr. Ranjit Nayak, in the presence of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Hashim Thaçi, signed two agreements providing funding for two projects by the World Bank, respectively: The Public Sector Modernization Project for Kosovo and Real Estate Cadastre and Registration Project.

Total funding to these projects reaches US $ 20.25 million (out of them US $ 9.11 million are grant and US $ 11.15 million is a soft loan).

For implementation of the project for modernization of the public sector of Kosovo will be used US $ 8 million dollars, while the remaining US $ 12.25 million will be allocated for the Real Estate Cadastre and Registration Project

On this occasion, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Mr. Hashim Thaçi said that “It is a particular pleasure for me that we have signed these project financing agreements today with the World Bank. I want to thank the World Bank, through Mr. Nayak and his staff, for the continuous support they have given to Kosovo. These two agreements are the first of this nature with the World Bank, coming nine months after the successful membership of our state into this institution”

He further added: “Their implementation will have a direct impact on the further consolidation of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo and in the services they provide. It will also help create the necessary conditions for improving the work and living environment in Kosovo, through providing efficient services”.

Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Ahmet Shala, who on behalf of the Government of Kosovo signed this agreement, said: “Today we signed two agreements for funding of two projects with the World Bank: The Public Sector Modernization Project for Kosovo and Real Estate Cadastre and Registration Project. Funding for these two projects totals US $ 20.25 million, of which, are US $ 9.11 million in form of grant and U.S. $ 11.15 million are in form of soft loan”
Minister Shala added that “U.S. $ 8 million will be used to implement the Public Sector Modernization Project for Kosovo, while the remaining U.S. $ 12.25 millions will be allocated for Real Estate Cadastre and Registration Project. This is only the first step and we hope that soon we will have other agreements in the best interest of the state of Kosovo”.

While Mr. Ranjit Nayak, World Bank Representative in Pristina said that this is the first strategy following Kosovo's membership to the World Bank, which provides for cooperation between the Government of Kosovo and WB for the next two years. The U.S. $ 12.25 million worth project deals real estate cadastre and registration. According to Mr. Nayak, this will speed-up the development, improve the business environment and regulate the issue of land and property market in rural and urban areas. The second project, according to him, is the Public Sector Modernization Project for Kosovo of U.S. $ 8 million, where U.S. $ 4.4 million are loans for 40 years with a 10 year Grace period. The remaining part is a grant of the International Development Association (IDA).
