IMF wrapped-up the three- week long visit to Ministry of Economy and Finance

The team of International Monetary Fund (IMF) has successfully concluded its three-week long visit to the Ministry of Economy and Finance. This marked the first visit of the IMF team in year 2010.

The IMF team, in a period of three weeks held intensive meetings with the Minister of Economy and Finance Mr. Ahmet Shala, MEF leading staff and representatives of other ministries.

The Minister Economy and Finance, Mr. Ahmet Shala informed IMF representatives on the progress achieved since their last visit in October last year, with a special emphasis on budget execution and its approval by the Parliament of Kosovo, the reforms undertaken in the Tax Administration, energy sector, in terms of improving collection of revenues in Kosovo Energy Corporation, improving public financial management and the steps taken in resolving problems and social needs. Moreover, with the IMF team are analyzed also measures to be taken by the Government of Kosovo to ensure the success of major projects of national interest for Kosovo and the manner of addressing the needs of many Kosovo citizens, certainly within the financial sustainability frameworks, complying always with the fiscal rules and balanced budget.

In the course of this three-week visit, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo has demonstrated high seriousness and devoted commitment to many issues, which are vital for the citizens and the Government of Kosovo, such as: strengthening budget processes, the execution of capital investments, the integrity of the budget process, improving road infrastructure to promote regional integration and improve competitiveness and meeting the requirements pertaining to decentralization of budget issues, arising from the Plan of President Ahtisaari.

As a result of numerous meetings with relevant ministries and identifying the needs of the citizens of Kosovo, IMF aid and long-term commitment is set to be the next step towards Kosovo’s further economic development.
